The original sentence was inscribed on the Temple of Apollo at Delphi in ancient Greece; in latin it reads "nosce te ipsum". It means know thyself. Honesty can be difficult. Self deception is the minds attempt to balance reality with perception. But change cannot happen until perception and reality are the same. British Philosopher Bertrand Russell once said, "No satisfaction based upon self-deception is solid, and however unpleasant the truth may be, it is better to face it once for all, to get used to it, and to proceed to build your life in accordance with it."

This can be a difficult step but gentle encouragement combined with hope for change can see mountains move, albeit one rock at a time.
